- More about charities!
GFG is free to join for charities! If that's not enough, here are a few more reasons.
New -&- Wider Audience
Deliver your message beyond your local donor pool and attract an entirely new population of donors. The typical donor on GFG will be more tech-savvy and can be influential in carrying out your mission.
Cheap Fundraising Tool
Fundraising can be tough, but also expensive! The average charity spends more than $xxx in annual fundraising expenses. We at GFG will always offer our tools and community for free.
Online Fundraising Platform
Let’s face it. More and more people are donating online and it will become the main method of giving. 4% of people gave online in 2002 and that number has grown to 65% in 2012. GFG is the future!
Guaranteed Donations
The GFG game was built so that everyone wins! Each charity involved in a game will receive an increase in donations.
We at Gift from George believe that our organizition is the next evolution for charitable and philanthropic impact.
GFG Charities can:
In order to participate in the GFG community, your charity or organization must be a registered 501(c)(3) and you must be on Guide Star (guidestar.com)
Aside from registering with GFG and GuideStar, becoming eligible for a game takes nothing more than using GFG to raise your funds! Once you raise $1,000 through our online platform, then you are automatically entered into a $10,000 game. The initial $1,000 that you fundraise is your money and we guarantee you at least a 10% return ($1,100) once the game has finished. The more support your charity receives, the larger the return on your investment! As you continue to grow with GFG and raise more funds, you will be entered into bigger and better games.
As an organization based on image, a charity can never be too catious about how they market themselves and who they associate with. Protecting your brand should be your top priority.
Depending on your size, some charities may prefer to use every service that we provide, while others will use as few as possible. Please feel free to ask us more detailed questions. Our goal is to add value to every charity regardless of size.
Yes, but this risk is mitigated in several ways. People searching your donors may have more exposure to other charitable causes that they may be interested in but this also applies to the flip side where other charity’s existing donors will be introduced to your mission and cause as well. We also offer your organization the tools and the platform to not only keep your existing donors more engaged but to reach a newer donor population as well. Perhaps most importantly, each charity is a small piece as the GFG platform is designed to be beneficial for any size organization. There are many GFG members who have no exposure to charities and this is your chance to get them involved on your team!
There is not and never will be any entry FEE to enter a game. However, we do require the charity to come up with 10% of the game size or tier size in order to participate in one of ours games. For example, a charity must have $1,000 of support on our website in order to join a $10K game. Keep in mind, this $1,000 is not to fund the pot and will be returned, in full, plus game winnings when the game has finished. The 10% entry requirement is simply a means of measuring the amount of support a charity is currently receiving in the GFG community and this is why we highly encourage you to ask your donors to use GFG to show their support! When GFG begins games such as a $25K, $50K or $100K game, charities will need to be popular enough to participate in larger fundraising opportunities. Essentially we want our family of charities and the GFG community to grow at a similar pace. Some charities may grow a little faster than others, but we give everyone equal opportunity.
For the charities, money is divided up proportionately based on the number of votes your charity receives. If there is $2,000 to be awarded to the charities, and your charity receives 50% of the votes, then your charity will be rewarded $1,000.
In addition to that, GFG awards an additional bonus for 1st and 2nd place. The charity receiving the most votes wins a bonus of $XXX and the 2nd place charity is awarded $XXX. We do this as a way to add an element of competition to make games more exciting and rewarding! No matter what though, each charity will get their initial seed money which allowed them to enter the game in the first place along with X% increase.
In the future, GFG games are divided into different tier sizes ($10K, $25K, $50K, $100K, etc.). Your charity will be allowed to participate in one game in each tier. However, every charity starts at the $10K tier. Your charity will not be allowed to participate in higher tiers until you have proven that you have enough support to compete in bigger games. This does not, however, limit the size that the pot in each game can grow to. See ‘Can a pot become larger than its tier size?
Once you have successfully qualified for a game, then you continue to market your cause and compete for votes. We make it easy for you to upload videos or photos, recount a touching story and explain to the GFG community why you need their support. As people contribute to a game, they will have 3 charities to choose from. It is your job to convince them why they should choose you!
When a donation is made to you through GFG, a 3% Transaction Fee is deducted from it. So on a $100 donation, $97 goes to the Charity less any other fees charged by the merchant processor based on your method of payment. This 3% is a standard fee charged by all merchant processors plus a very small amount to cover our expenses.
Once a game is completed, the total pot is divided between the charities, the individual winners, and GFG. The Game Management Fee helps cover the costs associated with (i) managing all of the games; (ii) ensuring everything is conducted fairly and equitably; (iii) vetting nonprofits through Guidestar's third party web service; (iv) providing the technology and customer service to make it all possible; and (v) all other business expenses including, but not limited to, legal fees, insurance and third parties.
